I am a big optimist, yet even I find myself weighted down at times. What are we to do to reverse those feelings and lift us up from despair? As I lay in bed at night, I often drift off to sleep, trying to think of a solution. Does the answer lie in medication? Can we find the end of our rainbow through soul searching or mental therapy? It is hard to decide which direction to take. Giving up will not solve anything. You can roll over and cover your head with a blanket until everyone and everything you hold dear, give up or go away. Is that the life you envisioned for yourself?
Many people don’t want to hear the lemons into lemonade story. Life has handed them something a lot worse than lemons. People fight for their lives everyday. If you really want to live, then live. Vent when you’re angry, cry when you are sad and lie down when you grow weary. The key is to get back up again. Sometimes a myriad of obstacles appear and drag us down. One thing after another seems to appear and knocks the wind out of our sail. There are some things in life that you simply can not change, others that you can. I’m sure you’ve seen the serenity prayer on plaques, posters, and bumper stickers. There is truth to be found in those words. Accepting things that you can’t change is hard to do. It can make life quite a challenge. Sometimes it seems that the things you want are just fingertip out of reach. I’m not advocating giving up. There comes a time when your energy should be spent focusing on other things. Focusing and having a passion for something is a lot different than obsessing in something. Obsession consumes you. Your life slips away as you chase the uncatchable with disregard for everything else. It robs you of all the other opportunities that surround you. Obsession can ruin your life.
